This is our podcasts very first episode hosted by Dalton Sheltra, Keri Russell, and myself; edited by our wonderful editor and producer Katelyn Schmidt. We decided on the topic of the Global Top 5 with songs by Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello, Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, and Dua Lipa. Personally, I feel as if the charts we looked at displayed the Global Top 5 songs from the US. I know there are lots of up and coming artists that are scaling the charts outside of the US. Of course the songs we reviewed are amazing! We know this episode was a little rough around the edges with our reviews but we are continuing to improve on that aspect of the podcast.
Going from fifth to first on the charts, the first song we played was “Wolves” by Selena Gomez. This song is definitely catchy and has a nice beat. I must say I wasn’t completely in love with the song the first time I had heard it. Keri and Dalton agreed with this as well but we all said the more we heard it the more they liked it. The second song was Dua Lipa’s “New Rules”. A quickly rising pop song about three rules to follow after a break-up. It’s a very empowering song for women and even without really listening to the lyrics it’s a got a great beat. Our third song is for all those sheerio’s out there “Perfect Duet” by Ed Sheeran and Beyonce. A beautiful collaboration between the two artists. We all love the original version better but still think Beyonce's voice was a great addition. Second on the charts is “Havana” by Camila Cabello featuring Young Thug. Contradicting our statement earlier in the episode, we think the constant beat in this song flows really well and doesn’t induce annoyance on the listener. Camila Cabello’s personification of Havana, her hometown in Cuba, beautiful and the addition of the trumpet really adds to the Cuban feel of the song. Number one on the charts is “Rockstar” by Post Malone and 21 Savage! This song rose quick on the charts and is the first collab between these two artists, hopefully with many more to come. That’s all this week!

It’s that time of year again and Forbes has released their list of the Future Moguls of 2018. Topping off the list is Cardi B, who had a phenomenal 2017, releasing hits like ‘Bodak Yellow”, which went platinum and made her the first solo female act to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart since Lauryn Hill in 1998. She also featured in a number of hits such as G-Eazy’s “No Limit” and Migos’ “MotorSport”. Next on the list is a personal favorite of mine by the name of 21 Savage. 21 solidified himself in the rap game with the release of “Issa Album” and with his huge hit “Bank Account”. Post Malone is another listed as a future Mogul who is well on the track of being one of the most popular rappers in the game. With hits like “White Iverson”, “Congratulations”, “Rockstar”, and “I Fall Apart” it’s hard to dispute the impact he has already had in the music industry.
Other names listed were Playboi Carti, Dave East, Vic Mensa, Lizzo, Wondagurl, and Tyler the Creator. However, I think 21 Savage, Cardi B, and Post Malone are the safest bets out of the bunch. They have already proven themselves capable of making bops that are played thousands and thousands of times it seems on the radio. Cardi B has a unique voice and a unique personality that I believe will get her far in the rap game. 21 also has a unique voice and some dark and personal music that reflects his own struggles in life. I don’t know what it is about Post that I like so much, I think its the fact that he is such a goofball and he is really funny but also makes great music. 2018 should be a even crazier year for rap than 2017 with Migos already planning to release the highly anticipated Culture 2 on January 26th. So everyone buckle up your seatbelts, and get ready for music galore. When is the appropriate time to start listening to Christmas music? I personally could listen to Christmas music year around. Most radio stations start playing Christmas music the day after thanksgiving. Some people start listing on there own the day after halloween. It seems as if Christmas music comes to a complete stop the day after Christmas is over.
A few traditional Christmas songs is White Christmas, The Christmas Song, and Holly Jolly Christmas. Some of today's popular artists have covered these songs and then some even made their own spin off of these songs. All I Want For Christmas Is A Real Good Tan by Kenny Chesney is based off the song I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas by Gayla Peevey. Both of these songs are very good songs and can even be funny at times. Whether you like the traditional Christmas music or new versions there is something out there for everyone to enjoy. |
